Cisco to call 'last orders' on NetScaler 1000V

It seems that Cisco and Citrix are sorting through your music library with the Borg put Citrix NetScaler 1000V products at their end of life list.

Even in the world of high net retention shares of Cisco business unit (SKU), Citrix NetScaler 1000V was short-lived. The two companies first announced their strategic alliance in 2011 and 1000v Netscaler was launched in 2013.

The idea was to integrate network portfolio Borg with what amounted to a customized version of NetScaler delivery controller (ADC) applications. In the other direction, Citrix wrote Nexus 1000 Platform cloud services and technologies Cisco Nexus 1000V VPath in the ADC.

Even as recently as last year, reconciliation seemed solid, as the home of VMware Cisco-EMC three was quite happy to provide desktop infrastructure (VDI) virtual integration of Citrix XenApp and XenDesktop with ADC Citrix. VMware and Citrix compete head to head in VDI, so the presence of a Citrix product VCE was marked.

This year, however, things are different. Citrix revealed last week the new NetScaler VPX new, and much have a virtual device with a yield of 100 Gbps claimed.

That, apparently, is fast enough for Citrix to achieve escape velocity of the planet Borg, has the NetScaler and Cisco 1000V with three months' notice.

As the announcement of end of life Cisco states:

"Advances in the creation of software defined (SDN) and the automation of data center networks has led to an open layer 4 to layer 7 of the ecosystem to allow virtualization of network functions in various Cisco solutions . in this transition, customers require the 1000V Citrix NetScaler (acquired by Cisco) based on parity with Citrix NetScaler VPX (acquired by Citrix), and the sense that he simply direct customers of Citrix NetScaler VPX and implement the end of life (EOL) process 1000V Citrix NetScaler. "

In other words, Cisco currently sells 1000v, but decided not to sell their successors. Probably it is indicating a change in the relationship between all parties.

May 20 is when the waiter Borgdom called "last orders" in the product. bug fixes and maintenance updates for software that will end in May 2017, and more generous in August 2020 is the most recent date for which Cisco will enable customers to renew service contracts for the product.
